(Spomenica na srpsko-turske ratove 1876-1878). Instituted in 1878. In brass, type I with solid eye loop, obverse illustrating the crowned monogram of Prince Milan IV Obrenovic, the monogram framed by a wreath composed of branches of laurel leaves and oak leaves, the wreath incorporating a flowing ribbon banner inscribed with the names of the battles in cyrillic script of Shumatovatz, Nish, Ak-Palanka, Pirot, Grdelitza, Vranja, Sv. Nicola and Adlije, reverse illustrating a female figure with a shield and cross, representative of Serbia, encircled by the inscription "War for Liberation and Independence 1876 1877 1878" in cyrillic script, measuring 32.5 mm (w) x 39 mm (h) inclusive of its integral eye loop, contact marks, spotting, original ribbon with hook and eye, very fine.

 

Footnote: The medal was created on February 15, 1878 and awarded to all active participants in the successful war against Ottoman Turkey that brought full independence for Serbia and significant territorial gains.
