Saxony, Kingdom. A Commemorative War Cross of 1866

(Erinnerungskreuz 1866). Instituted 22 May 1867 by King Johann. (1867 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from a period incorrect replacement ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with its arms joined through the quadrants by stylized sun rays, the obverse bearing a central wreathed monogram of King Johann, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1866”, unmarked, measuring 30.38 mm (w) x 32.55 mm (h), weighing 10.1 grams, with some oxidation evident, in near extremely fine condition.
