$3,105
(Heer Stahlhelm M17). A well-preserved Heer transitional Austrian-made M17 Stahlhelm, constructed of a magnetic molybdenum steel shell. The exterior bears an original Third Reich-period matte apple-green paint. It is flanked on each side by decals, with the right side consisting of a shield bearing a classic Wehrmacht black, white, and red tricolour motif, while the left side features a black shield overlaid by a silver Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika. Each decal measures 34 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). It is flanked on each side by a protruding integral ventilation hole, as well as by dual rivets securing in place the interior features, with the latter situated high in classic M17 format. A final rivet is situated at the back of the helmet. The rim is crimped, providing a smooth edge. An aluminum ring is fastened in place with the aforementioned rivets and fully surrounds the interior. Emanating from the ring is a period original brown leather liner, itself completing in eight fingers, each perforated with five ventilation holes and a single top hole throughout which is looped a drawstring. An integral loop descends from each side of the ring and accommodates a period original black leather chinstrap. The chinstrap is perforated with 13 holes for a highly adjustable fit, with the holes meeting a functional magnetic metal buckle. The shell is fully unmarked, while the liner bears a size stamp of “59” in black ink. The helmet measures 250 mm (w) x 315 mm (l) x 150 mm (h). Some issues consistent with age and wartime usage are evident, and include minor loss of shell paint, scratching of the decals, and material fatigue of the leather elements. A desirable transitional Stahlhelm with intact insignia in an overall near extremely fine condition.
