Germany, Luftwaffe. A Krim Shield

(Luftwaffe Krimschild). Constructed of bronzed zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, affixed with two reverse prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a dark grey wool liner indicating Luftwaffe issue, the reverse retaining a black composite liner, the shield measuring 54.70 mm (w) x 61.92 mm (h), with consistent loss of finish evident, an uncommon design in near extremely fine condition.
