(HJ Fahrtenmesser). A HJ member’s knife, measuring 255 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 150 mm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. Acid-etched onto the obverse of the blade is a cursive inscription of “BLUT UND EHRE!” (“BLOOD AND HONOUR!”), while the reverse bears a maker’s mark of “WKC” for the firm of Weyersburg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen, topped by the company’s classic knight’s helmet logo. It sits securely within a one-piece nickel-plated magnetic metal hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel, and with an intact black leather buffer pad covering the seam. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are secured together with two non-magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle is an enameled HJ insignia measuring 14 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. The throat retains a functional spring catch, firmly holding the knife in place during storage. A black leather strap is secured to the shaft with two visible rivets, and retains a functional snap button for belt suspension. Issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include oxidation to the blade with evidence of polishing with has rendered the inscription mostly illegible, with additional oxidation and loss of paint visible to the scabbard. Additionally, the knife does not insert into the scabbard with a flush fit, indicating possible replacement or internal issues. The knife is in an overall very fine condition.
