(Allgemeine SS Schirmmütze). An extremely well-preserved Allgemeine SS EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of black whipcord wool. The cap features side walls with sturdy interior reinforcements, trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with lengths of white wool piping. An additional band of identical piping lines the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is a silvered bronze insignia consisting of an early pattern SS-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed and blackened mobile swastika, measuring 38 mm (w) x 28 mm (h). Directly beneath the eagle, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an additional silvered tombak insignia consisting of a first pattern “Octopus” style SS Totenkopf, measuring 33 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). The cap band is flanked on each side by a black-painted magnetic metal rivet securing in place a multi-piece black leather chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, the chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor. The former is finished in black on the obverse and features a faux leather texture, while the reverse is finished in a matte brown. A fully-intact SS Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo is stamped onto the reverse of the visor in black ink. A brown leather sweatband measuring 45 mm in width surrounds the interior of the side walls, while a multi-piece brown oilcloth and cotton-blended liner fully encompasses the interior. The crown retains a transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard, in turn set over top of a gilded SS insignia. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 250 mm (w) x 258 mm (l) x 156 mm (h). It demonstrates only minor issues consistent with age and wear, including slight fatigue to the chinstrap, small spots of finish loss to the edge of the visor, and some wear and soiling to the crown liner. The cap is in an overall extremely fine condition.
