Austria, Empire. An Honour Decoration of the Red Cross, Silver Grade Medal with War Decoration for Ladies

(Ehrenzeichen vom Roten Kreuz). Instituted in 1914. Two-piece construction, Red Cross insignia in silver with red and white enamels, mounted to an oval base in silver with green enamels, hallmarked with a dog's head (.800 silver) flanked by a "2" on the left and an "A" (Vienna) on the right, and marked with a six-sided star on the reverse of the integral suspension, measuring 35.7 mm (w) x 48 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, intact enamels, original bow-tied ribbon with safety pin attachment, extremely fine. In its cardboard box of issue, marked with the Red Cross insignia above the inscription "Patriae ac Humanitati 1864-1914 K.D." in gold-coloured ink on the lid, medal bed with a raised platform in white felt, measuring 87.5 mm (w) x 91.2 mm (h) x 14.5 mm (d), soiling evident on the exterior and the medal bed, weakened hinged area, box fine.
