Instituted 1798 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz. Type IV (1872). In bronze, the obverse featuring a right facing portrait of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II, surrounded by the inscription FRIEDRICH FRANZE GROSSHERZOG V. MECKLENBURG SCHWERIN, the reverse presents the inscription DEM VERDIENSTE surrounded by a wreath with the inscription PER ASPERA AD ASTRA, measures 41.1mm (w) x 48mm (h – inclusive of integral loop), weighs 30.1 grams, worn on an original triangular ribbon, in very fine condition.

 

Footnote: The Civil Merit Medal was originally instituted by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz in 1798 and was conferred in recognition of meritorious service rendered to the Grand Duke and the state.
