(Luisen-Orden). Instituted by King Friedrich Wilhelm III on August 3, 1814. Type II (1864-1918). An officially made but unawarded silver eight point star with clusters of smooth rays, the obverse presents a super imposed black enamelled crossed pattee with the dates 8.1. 1814 1901 1813 on the arms, the central Gold medallion features an L inscription surrounded by 7 stars on a blue enamelled field, the reverse features a single pin assembly, measures 91.7mm (h) x 92mm (h), weighs 87.4grams, enamels intact with extremely limited wear, wear to patina on arms, very rare and in extremely fine condition.

 

Footnote: The Order of Louise was founded by King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia on August 3, 1814 to commemorate his deceased wife Queen Louise. There were only two instances of the special Grand Cross and Grand Cross Breast Star grade being awarded. They were conferred upon the Grand Duchess Louise of Baden in 1897 and the Queen of Prussia Auguste Victoria in 1901.
