Instituted 23 September 1818 by King Wilhelm I, based on Orders instituted by King Eberhard IV Ludwig in 1702 and amended by King Friedrich I in 1807. 1892-1918 Issue. In Gold and white enamel Maltese cross with double plume and elongated suspension ring, the obverse bears a central white enamel medallion bearing a gilt Wurttemberg crown with a deep red enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters “furchtlos und trew” (fearless and loyal), the reverse bears a central white enamel medallion bearing the gilt crowned cipher “F” for King Friedrich I within a deep enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters “furchtlos und trew”, measuring 38.88 mm (w) x 41.64 mm (h), weighing 10.3 g with original ribbon, very fine.
