A personalized and finely-detailed reservist’s commemorative pipe, constructed of a glazed white porcelain shaft, topped by a retractable silvered bronze lid in the form of a Pickelhaube, the exterior bearing hand-painted scenes documenting the life of a reservist, including uniform issue, guard duty, fraternizing with fellow personnel, and returning home, with the illustrations surrounded by text descriptions of the scene, a unit attribution of “RESERVE DER 7. COMP. DES INFANTR. RGTS. VON HORN (3. RHEIN.), and full personnel list identifying members of the unit for the years 1896-1898, with an owner’s name of “RES. SCHMIDT” at the bottom, the mouthpiece retaining an illegible blued maker’s mark, measuring 185 mm in total length, with some oxidation and blackening of the lid consistent with use, in addition to minor imperfections in the glaze, with no evident chips or cracks, a unique commemorative pipe in near extremely fine condition,.
