Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central black swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE”), unmarked, measuring 41.41 mm (w) x 46.16 mm (h), weighing 24.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilded and wreathed number “40”, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former maker marked “DESCHLER & SOHN, MÜNCHEN”, with a slotted maroon felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, with minor material fatigue evident to the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
