Oldenburg, Grand Duchy. A Friedrich August Cross, I Class

(Friedrich August Kreuz, I. Klasse). Instituted 24 September 1914 by Grand Duke Friedrich August. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of blackened magnetic iron, consisting of a Cross Pattée with its arms joined through the quadrants by a circular laurel leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich August, the six o’clock arm bearing an institution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a royal crown, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 45.32 mm (w) x 44.96 mm (h), weighing 26.7 grams, with loss of finish evident throughout, in better than very fine condition.
