Germany, Wehrmacht. A Splinter Pattern Reversible Winter Hood

(Tarn Kapuze). A well-preserved Wehrmacht reversible winter hood, constructed of a padded, multi-piece cotton blend. The exterior is finished in a classic Splittertarnmuster (Splinter Pattern) camouflage, with a mottled consisting of an olive-drab base overlaid by dark green and brown geometric patterns, in turn overlaid by dark green splinters. The reverse is finished in white for use in winter condition (with the exception of a single replaced pattern which is finished in light grey). It is flanked on each side by grey wool ear pieces to allow for functionality without compromising protection from the elements. Two drawstringw set into the lower left flap facilitate secure closure. The winter side retains a faint black ink size mark of “57”. It measures approximately 44 cm (w) x 44 mm (h) when folded in half on a flat surface. In addition to the replaced panel, the hood demonstrates minor soiling and fatigue consistent with age and field use. It is in an overall very fine condition.
