Germany, Wehrmacht. A General Assault Badge

(Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen). Constructed of cupal, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, around a central Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but consistent with a design tentatively credited to Funcke & Brüninghaus, Lüdenscheid, measuring 42.55 mm (w) x 53.87 mm (h), weighing 15.5 grams, with most of the silver finish lost, a scarce example in very fine condition.
