Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Blockade Runner Badge, by Schwerin

(Abzeichen für Blockadebrecher). Constructed of silvered and patinated tombak, the obverse consisting of a circular chain link wreath, surrounding a central blockade runner cutting through waves, with its bow topped by a German national eagle in mid-flight clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, designer marked “OTTO PLACZEK, BERLIN” and maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 48.73 mm in diameter, weighing 36.5 grams, with moderate loss of finish evident and some tarnishing visible to the reverse, a first pattern Schwerin badge in very fine condition.
