Constructed of tombak and nickel-silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with the logo of Imme & Sohn, Berlin, measuring 53.26 mm (w) (inclusive of wingspan) x 52.63 mm (h), weighing 45.4 grams, maker marked with the logo of Imme & Sohn, Berlin, notably carefully etched with an owner’s name of “LANGELOTZ” and a Feldpost number of “20630” indicating that the owner was attached to Aufklärungsstaffel 4. (F)/11 (Reconnaissance Group), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “BEOBACHTERABZ.”, the interior with a padded purple satin lid liner and slotted dark blue velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 75 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), with slight material fatigue evident to the case, a superb and personalized example in extremely fine condition.
