Constructed of nickel-silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a raised and narrow barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with the logo of Gebrüder Wegerhoff, Lüdenscheid, measuring 63.34 mm (w) (inclusive of wingspan) x 52.68 mm (h), weighing 45.1 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “LUFTWAFFE FLUGZEUGFÜHRER-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a blue felt lid liner and slotted blue felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 80 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 25 (h), the case demonstrates age-appropriate material fatigue but the badge presents free of wear or damage and is a textbook example of a high-quality Gebrüder Wegerhoff piece in extremely fine condition.
