(SS Division Polizei Fotoalbum). A fascinating private wartime photo album compiled by a member of the SS Polizei Division who served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts between 1940 and 1942, constructed of a card stock binding, the exterior cover featuring a full-colour illustration of Luftwaffe ground attack aircraft striking a harbour, the spine with a faux black leather reinforcement, perforated at both the front and back with eyelets reinforced with brown-painted magnetic metal grommets through which is a looped a drawstring to securely maintain the album’s structure, the interior content consisting of 23 beige card stock pages pasted with 96 black-and-white private wartime photos, opening with images of the owner and personnel from his unit posing in uniforms and with decorations and insignia clearly visible, transitioning to scenes of SS Polizei Division personnel in France bivouacking, training, and at leisure, similarly with an array of uniforms and field equipment on display, with the remaining two-thirds of the album showing the unit in the Soviet Union from 1941 until 1942, with several shots of personnel wearing camouflage smocks and helmet covers, followed by 15 photos showing SS Polizei Division field graves with names and dates clearly visible and fully researchable, notably accompanied by an image of an unidentified Waffen-SS Knight’s Cross recipient, completing with images of personnel assembling for a review in uniform at a location likely within Greater Germany, many of the images accompanied by handwritten captions, the album measuring 200 mm (w) x 230 mm (h), extremely fine.
