Germany, SA. A Model 1933 Dagger, by Lauterjung & Co.

(Sturmabteilung Dolch). A Model 1933 Sturmabteilung (SA) dagger, measuring 37.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 22.5 cm-long nickel-plated magnetic steel dagger with a sharpened tip and edges. Acid-etched onto the obverse of the blade is an inscription of “ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND” (“EVERYTHING FOR GERMANY”). The reverse is maker marked in transitional fashion with the classic “PUMA” logo of Lauterjung & Co., Solingen, topped by a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and code of “M7/27” for the same manufacturer. The blade sits firmly within a nickel-plated alloy upper crossguard marked with eight notches, distributed in groups of four at both the top and bottom. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of lacquered dark brown wood carved into a curvature for a comfortable grip. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered German national eagle measuring 2.5 cm (w) x 1.5 cm (h). Also inset into the obverse pommel is a partially-silvered SA insignia measuring 1 cm in diameter. It completes with a nickel-plated alloy lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, secured in place with a rounded pommel nut which securely maintains the dagger’s structural integrity. The dagger is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a brown-painted magnetic metal shaft. Nickel-plated non-magnetic metal fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat with side rivets. Also emanating from the latter is a loop for the accommodation of a hanger. The throat also retains a functional spring catch, firmly holding the dagger in place during storage. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks and tarnishing to the blade, sporadic loss of nickel finish to the plated features, some scratching of the handle, and loss of scabbard paint.
