An interesting and well-preserved photo album commemorating the German Cruiser Köln’s 1932/33 world tour, constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux dark brown leather exterior liner, the spine perforated with four holes reinforced with magnetic metal grommets through which is looped a drawstring to maintain the album’s structure, the cover bearing a raised coat of arms of the city of Köln (Cologne) and an inscription of “MIT KREUZER KÖLN DURCHS MITTELMEER NACH OSTASIEN U. AUSTRALIEN 1932/33” (“WITH THE CRUISER KÖLN THROUGH THE MEDITERRANEAN TO EAST ASIA AND AUSTRALIA”), the interior content consisting of 14 black card stock pages, pasted with a large number of mass-produced commemorative images, private photos, and reproduced text documents of significance to the Köln’s voyage, including scenery in the Mediterranean and Egypt, depictions of the ship passing through the Suez canal, completing with many scenes of locals and key sights in Papua New Guinea, Guam, Australia, Japan, and China, measuring 41.5 mm (w) x 28 cm (h), with minor age-appropriate material fatigue evident, a fascinating album in near extremely fine condition.
