Germany, Wehrmacht. A Narvik Shield

(Narvikschild). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, symbolizing Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe, and Gebirgsjäger personnel, respectively, topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” and a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse missing all of its attachment prongs with consequent loss of its branch-attributing wool liner, with a silver finish indicating Heer or Luftwaffe issue, measuring 42.48 mm (w) x 91.03 mm (h), weighing 21.5 grams, with oxidation and most of the silver finish lost, in overall better than very fine condition.
