Type II. Of the highest quality by J.A. Da Costa, Grand Cross sash badge in gold with outstanding hand etched tower and laurels encasing a white enameled cross with gold centres, 46.7 grams, hand detailed tower is particularly noteworthy for fine craftsmanship, measuring 60 mm (w) x 70 mm (h - inclusive of horizontally pierced tower), minor enamel loss and contact, centre slightly loose, on original silk sash, extremely fine. Grand Cross Star of equally fine manufacture in gold, with hand filed detailing, with a hollow white enameled five pointed star, gold centre, separately crafted tower affixed by single gold rivet, measuring 63 mm (w) x 74 mm (h), reverse with dual pin assembly, ornate makers motif, weighing 61.4 grams, minimal contact, extremely fine. Accompanied by original, large, case of issue by Joaquin Augusta da Costa, bound in red leather with gold embossed lettering with boarder, some panel separation, fair.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
