Item #G52540

$501
(Heer Schiffchen M38 für Offiziere der Militärverwaltung). A well-preserved Heer Militärverwaltung (Military Administration) Officer’s M38 overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls, scalloped toward the front, which are adorned with a length of silver aluminum wire piping just below the peak. A further length of silver aluminum wire piping trims the outer edge of the crown, which is also flanked on each side by ventilation holes reinforced with grey-painted non-magnetic metal grommets. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a dark green rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 70 mm (w) x 28 mm (h) overall. Directly below the eagle, the cap is embroidered with an tri-colour aluminum wire cockade, complete with a red felt centrepiece, measuring 23 mm in diameter. The cockade is surrounded by a soutache presenting in a classic Administration dark green. The interior features a partial sweatband, constructed of brown leather, set across the forehead, and is fully encompassed by an olive-drab cotton/rayon-blended liner. It is unmarked with the exception of an illegible embossed maker’s logo on the sweatband, and measures 28 cm (l) x 13 mm (h) when folded on a flat surface. The base wool demonstrates slight material fatigue, in addition to visible soiling of the sweatband, but the cap remains in an overall extremely fine condition.
