Instituted 1926. A lovely Cuban manufactured Breast Star in silver, featuring ten distinct arms, each composed of clusters of individual rays, arms alternating between smooth and faceted finishes, obverse centre presenting a gilt portrait of Carlos Manuel Cespedes with a blue enamel border which states CARLOS MANUEL DE CESPEDES 1868 (Year of Cuban Independence), outer gilt wreath with thin red enamel ties as well as ten silver rays represented by crashing waves, reverse with a principle pin assembly with locking catch, the cartouche denotes manufacture by ANTIGUA VILARDEBO Y RIERA FABRICADO EN CUBA, measures 81.5mm (w) x 84.7mm (h), weighs 95.8 grams, hinge and catch functional, enamels intact, light patina wear, a lovely star in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order was conferred in recognition of extraordinary merit and service to the Republic of Cuba. This Order was named after the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes for his efforts in the Cuban War of Independence.
