Multi-piece construction, both centrepieces in Gold with red, white and navy blue enamels, the badge in silver gilt with the four arms in white enamels, unmarked, measuring 48.7 mm (w) x 58.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, intact enamels, scattered gilt wear, accompanied by its original full-length neck ribbon, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, pebbled exterior, the lid marked in gold-coloured ink "C. B. MILY." (Companion), inside lid in white satin and marked with the King's crown above the maker mark "GARRARD & Co Ltd. / by special appointment / TO HIS MAJESTY THE KING / 24, ALBEMARLE St LONDON / & Dalhousie Sq. Calcutta.", insert with a raised platform in beige felt housing a recessed medal bed, measuring 85 mm (w) x 158 mm (h) x 36.7 mm (d), separation evident in the seam along the hinged edge on the lid, wear evident in the fabric overlying the hinged area, lightly soiled medal bed, case very fine.

 

Footnote: The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was instituted in 1725. It is awarded for outstanding service in the Armed Forces or Civil Service. It was originally awarded in one grade, however, since 1918, it is awarded in three grades: Knight or Dame Grand Cross, Knight or Dame Commander, and Companion, in two divisions, Civil and Military.
