A fascinating and extensive private wartime photo album from the estate of a Heer soldier with extensive Eastern Front service, constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux dark brown leather exterior liner, the cover bearing a silvered Reichsarbeitsdienst (Reich Labour Service/RAD) insignia and silvered inscription of “MEINE DIENSTZEIT” (“MY SERVICE TIME”), the spine perforated with four holes perforated with magnetic metal grommets through which is looped a drawstring that maintains the album’s structural integrity, the interior contents consisting of 23 black card stock pages separated by wax paper dividers which protect the images, the latter consisting of 203 private photos of varying sizes interspersed with tourist-style postcards acquired by the owner in the field, the images documenting an extensive career beginning with mandatory RAD service, later transitioning to the owner’s military service as a Heer recruit, followed by an array of images showing the owner and Wehrmacht personnel in the field, training, and leisure in all weather conditions, including images of Heer personnel in Roma villages and camps in Romania, the cover retaining a maker’s label of “PHOTO-JAHNS, MAGDEBURG”, measuring 31.5 cm (w) x 23 cm (h), in overall extremely fine condition.
