(Waffen-SS Tarnhemd). A rare and extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS M38 camouflage smock, constructed of a weatherproof cotton duck fabric. The exterior is dyed in a classic Platanenmuster (Plane Tree) summer camouflage pattern consisting of roughly equal light green and dark olive-drab mottle, interspersed with light brown blotches, all in turn defaced by small irregular circles of contrasting colours. The interior features an analogous pattern composed of light, medium, and dark brown for use in autumn conditions. A reinforced vertical slit descending down the chest from the collar features five sets of dua eyelets which retain a period original drawstring for secure closure. Each sleeve features an elasticized cuff for a flush fit with the wearer’s undergarment. Dual side pockets open with vertical slits to provide unobstructed access to an accompanying field tunic. Completing the smock’s features is a tightly elasticized waist to prevent the item from riding up during field wear. Unmarked, it measures approximately 60 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 64 cm, and an overall body length of 74 cm when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor soiling and material fatigue consistent with light field usage, this scarce smock is in an overall extremely fine condition.
