Germany, SS. A Rare Waffen-SS Crusher Visor Cap, by August Müller

Item #G52816

$3,001
(Waffen-SS Schirmmütze). A rare Waffen-SS old style or “crusher” visor cap, constructed of field-grey whipcord wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, lined on the exterior with a black doeskin cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with white wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping trims the outer edge of the crown. The peak bears the unmistakable outline of a metal SS-style German national eagle insignia, which has since been lost to time. Directly below the imprint, the centre of the cap band similarly demonstrates the outline of a Totenkopf insignia. Completing the exterior features is a protruding patent-leather black visor. The interior features a beige leather sweatband which surrounds the side walls, and is fully lined with a multi-piece beige rayon liner. The crown bears a maker’s mark of “AUG. MÜLLER, MÜNCHEN”, circumscribing the firm’s monogram logo. It measures approximately 23 cm (w) x 25.5 cm (l) x 15.5 cm (h). In addition to the missing insignia, both the wool and leather elements demonstrate minor material fatigue consistent with field wear. This scarce cap is in an overall very fine condition.
