Germany, Third Reich. A Return of Memel Commemorative Medal

(Medaille zur Erinnerung an die Heimkehr des Memellandes). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a wreathed inscription of “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DIE HEIMKEHR DES MEMELLANDES 22. MÄRZ 1939” (“IN COMMEMORATION OF THE HOMECOMING OF MEMELLAND 22 MARCH 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.05 mm in diameter, weighing 12.8 grams, a slanted G variation in extremely fine condition.
