Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross I Class, Type II, by B.H. Mayer

(Wiederholungsspange 1939 zum Eisernen Kreuz 1.Klasse 1914). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn set above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939”, the reverse with a barrel hinge and flattened vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of a version “A” produced by B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim, measuring 44.16 mm (w) x 30.46 mm (h), weighing 9.6 grams, in extremely fine condition.
