Greeting: This certifies that Comrade Culver Marshall is a member in good standing....The following is a correct transcript from the records of this post. Comrade Culver Marshall is 56 years of age, was born in Pleasant Valley State of New York and is by occupation a R.R. Bridge Inspector entered the service on the 20th day of June 1863 as a Private in Co. D 13th Regt. New York State Militia and was finally discharged on the 15th day of May 1865 as a Quartermaster Sergeant Co. "C" 1st Regt. New Jersey Cavalry by reason of General Order #94 May 15th 1865.", signed by Post Commander J.B. Smith and Adjutant W.S. Powell, embossed seal of Ransom Post No. 4 G.A.R. in Flagstaff, Arizona at the lower left, dated December 31, 1889, printed in black and gold-colored inks, on an off-white paper, with individualized information handwritten in black ink throughout, measuring 293 mm (w) x 230 mm (h), exhibiting tears and foldmarks, along with edge wear and light soiling, fair.

Footnote: Culver Marshall was born in Pleasant Valley, New York and entered service as a Private with Company "D", 13th Regiment, New York State Militia on June 20, 1863. He later enlisted as a Private on January 25, 1864 for service in the Civil War and was mustered into "I" Company, New Jersey 1st Cavalry. He would soon see an intra-regimental company transfer to "C" Company, where he was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on December 12, 1864 (as of "C" Company). Culver was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on July 23, 1865 (as of "E" Company, not mustered) and mustered out the following day, on July 24, 1865. He went on to become a Railroad Bridge Inspector.
