Instituted June 4 1917 by King George V. Type I (1917-1937). An Officer’s Badge, in silver, featuring the portraits of Queen Mary and King George V on the obverse surrounded by a ring inscribed FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE, the reverse features the cypher of George V, the reverse is marked SG maker mark denoting Garrard and silver hallmarks including the lion passant, London city mark and ‘c’ date mark denoting 1918 manufacture, measures 48.8mm (w) x 63.8mm (h – inclusive of integral crown suspension), weighs 25.1 grams (including ribbon), worn on original type I ribbon, minor wear, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in its original case of issue, a rich dark purple/blue hardshell leatherette exterior marked O.B.E MILY, the interior is marked GARRARD & Co, with a crème coloured recessed velvet medal bed, hinge and clasp functional, minor wear, in extremely fine condition.
