In sterling silver, obverse illustrating Britannia in flowing robes, a shield bearing the Union Jack to her right, her left arm extended and holding an olive branch over the head of a soldier, inscribed "FOR SERVICE" above, reverse marked "925" (silver), maker marked with an "R", hallmarked with the British lion, marked "STERLING" and inscribed "PRESENTED TO C. PEPPER BY THE CITIZENS OF ELMIRA FOR GALLANT SERVICES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18", with the recipient's name and town name engraved, measuring 31.8 mm (w) x 35.3 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, with ring suspension, light contact, residue evident in the recessed from cleaning, better than very fine.
