Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms joined together through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central black swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE”), unmarked, measuring 41.40 mm (w) x 46.33 mm (h), weighing 23.1 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilded and wreathed number “40”, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted maroon velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 48 mm (w) x 100 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), in overall extremely fine condition.
