Netherlands, Kingdom. An Order of the Dutch Lion, Grand Cross Breast Star

(De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw). Instituted on 29 September 1815. 1906-1953 Issue. A top quality Grand Cross Breast Star in silver gilt, featuring an eight point star of alternating smooth and sequined rays with eyelets at each tip, the obverse medallion features a white enamel Maltese cross with gilt borders and ball finials with a W in each quadrant, the center depicts the inscription VIRTUS NOBILITAT on a blue enamel background with a twisted rope gilt border, the reverse is with a vertical pin flanked by dual stays, the center bears the maker cartouche of M.J GOUDSMIT LA HAVE, measures 85.10mm (w) x 86.3mm (h), weighs 77.3 grams, eyelets on the 6 and 9 o’clock arms are bent and misshapen, enamels intact, gilt wear on the rays, hinge and catch functional, remains in extremely fine condition.
