Instituted April 17 1900. A rare V Class badge, in silver gilt, presenting a white enamel star with clusters of three smooth rays with a small ray between each cluster, the obverse features a red and blue enamelled Taeguk, obverse mirrors the reverse, suspended from a lotus blossom with green enamelled leaves, the obverse shows leaf veins while the reverse presents an inscription in Kanji meaning “Order of Merit”, measures 45.13 mm (w) x 69.60 mm (h - inclusive of lotus suspension and integral bar), weighs 38.9 grams (including ribbon), worn on a period ribbon with metal clasp on reverse, scattered gilt wear, enamels intact, remains in extremely fine condition.
