Germany, Wehrmacht. An Eastern People’s Bravery Decoration, I Class in Gold

(Ostvolkmedaille, I. Klasse in Gold mit Schwertern). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star, overlaid by a central rosette set within a circular laurel wreath, with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 49.22 mm (w) x 49.12 mm (h), weighing 21.8 grams, a rare example retaining most of its original gilt finish in near extremely fine condition.
