Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and leftward-facing bust of Count Grigory Grigoryevich Orlov in high relief and exceptional detail, circumscribed by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, the reverse bearing a raised depiction of Orlov in a Roman-style uniform and mounted on a horse, superimposed over a detailed Moscow skyline (symbolizing Orlov’s successful initiatives to quell the plague and civil unrest which had gripped the city), circumscribed by praise and dedications, the obverse maker marked “G. WAECHTER” for medallist Georg Christian Waechter, measuring 92.58 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
