The set consisting of 1) A Grand Cross Breast Star; consisting of a silver gilded star with eight-pointed multi-rayed arms, with a red enameled Seipel’s cross attached to the center of the obverse; the reverse plain; with a vertical pinback and a functional hinge/catch assembly; maker marked “Anton Reiterer, Juwilier, Wien IX, Schubertring 24” on the reverse; measuring 95.68 mm (w) x 96.06 mm (h); weighing 85.0 grams. 2) The Grand Cross Sash Badge; constructed of a gilded silver red enameled Seipel’s cross; on a triple loop suspension from its period original sash ribbon featuring a large rosette; measuring 48.46 mm (w) x 51.75 mm (h); the red enameled Seipel’s cross with a chip in the enamels; in better than extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
