Bavaria, Kingdom. An Observer’s Badge, by Carl Poellath

(Beobachterabzeichen). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Bavarian royal crown, with a central black and white checkered enamel applique set within a red enameled border, set on top of a ribbed background, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, maker marked “C. POELLATH, SCHROBENHAUSEN” and “SILBER”, measuring 45.80 mm (w) x 73.08 mm (h), weighing 35.3 grams, with some scratching of the enamels evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
