Footnote: Gordon J. Patterson was born on April 12, 1925 to John and Edith Patterson of Dundas, Ontario. Prior to serving in the army, Patterson worked on his father’s farm as a labourer and spent one year driving a truck for a coal company. He enlisted on July 15, 1943 and was considered physically fit on all fronts, however suffered from ‘restricted ability’ and was therefore recommended to be assigned to routine duties and simple tasks within the Infantry as a non-tradesman. He completed his infantry training in May 1944, and served with the 102nd Field Battery, R.C.A. He later served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment, R.C.I.C. Patterson was at first considered missing in action however, it was soon after discovered he was killed in action in France on October 14, 1944. He is buried at the Roosendaal Municipality Cemetery in Bergen Op Zoom.
