A rare and desirable Stahlhelm Wehrsportkreuz, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a repeated point cross with ribbed and black enameled arms, with each quadrant transitioning to a crowned eagle’s head, the centre consisting of an additional white enameled repeated point cross, overlaid by a raised and silvered Stahlhelm insignia, the reverse with a central visible rivet securing the obverse insignia in place, engraved with an issue number of “1028”, with a crimped barrel hinge and elongated banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 44.95 mm (w) x 45.20 mm (h), weighing 20.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of two pieces of card stock with a black canvas exterior liner, the interior retaining a light green cotton medal bed, the base bearing a handwritten number of “1028” indicating original issue with the decoration, otherwise unmarked, measuring 56 mm (w) x 56 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), loss of silver finish is evident to the decoration and particularly noticeable to the Stahlhelm insignia, in addition to minor flecking of the enamels, an extremely rare Stahlhelm decoration with a seldom-seen matching case in very fine condition.
