Instituted 2009. A collar with badge and star, presenting in silver gilt. The collar features 24 alternating links of teal enamel with a yellow crescent moon along the side with the Order’s inscription (translating to “And there is no winner by God”), and black enamel links with central yellow crescent moons, reverse of all links are plain, each link measures 24mm in diameter, the badge is connected to the collar via a single hook, a five-armed gilt star with ball finials, the center medallion, features a light teal enamel disc with a yellow enamel crescent along the 6 bottom edge, reverse is plain, measures 61mm (w) x 61.15mm (h), weighs 153.9 grams (collar and badge), wear on the reverse, enamels intact and in very fine condition.
Accompanied by the star of the order, presenting a ten point star with a smaller ray in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a teal enamelled field with central inscription (translating to “Mars in the West”) and a gilt crescent below, the reverse presents a short single pin assembly, the star measures 70mm (w) x 73.2mm (h), weighs 58.3 grams, pin slightly bent, enamel intact, in very fine condition.
Footnote: The Nishan al Afrikiya (Caliphate Order) was instituted circa 2009 by Prince Osman Rifat Ibrahim, a grandson of the last Ottoman Caliph. It is believed that 5 sets of insignia were manufactured in Portugal.
