Germany, Heer. A Demjansk Shield

(Ärmelschild Demjansk). Constructed of magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a pair of crossed swords, overlaying a plane in flight and situated above a date of “1942”, topped by an inscription of “DEMJANSK”, in turn set below a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika flanked by pillboxes constructed of logs, affixed to a magnetic metal backplate with an original wax paper backer and retaining a field-grey wool liner indicating Heer issue, the shield measuring 50.40 mm (w) x 91.44 mm (h), demonstrating minor oxidation to the magnetic metal features, in near extremely fine condition.
