(wisam aljumhuria / وسام الجمهورية). Instituted in 1959. Type II (1963-Date). Five-piece construction, in frosted silver with red and green enamels, maker marked "AB & Co" (Arthus Bertrand & Compagnie) on the obverse of the loop, measuring 61.5 mm (w) x 70.3 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, intact enamels, scattered silver frosting wear evident on the Tunisia coat-of-arms on the obverse centrepiece and on the reverse, on its original full-length neck ribbon, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, dark green pebbled exterior, label in handwritten black ink affixed to the bottom and that apparently reads "Monsieur Seyuaue U. / Commandeur de la Reg.", inside lid in white satin, padded and maker marked "ARTHUS BERTRAND", base with a raised platform as a medal bed in off-white felt, with a slot at the lower left for the missing rosette, measuring 89 mm (w) x 149.5 mm (h) x 38 mm (d), light wear and contact on the exterior and on the white felt of the medal bed, case better than very fine.

 

Footnote: The Order of the Republic was instituted on March 16 1959 and is awarded to Tunisians and foreigners who have contributed to the establishment of the Republic, the development of the regime and the strengthening of its institutions, in five grades: Grand Cordon, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
