Instituted in 1985. In rhodium-plated cupro-nickel, obverse illustrating the right-facing bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the St. Edward crown, surrounded by the inscription "PAPUA NEW GUINEA / QUEEN ELIZABETH II", reverse illustrating the national emblem of Papua New Guinea, inscribed "INDEPENDENCE" above and "1975-1985" below, measuring 37 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally-pierced ball suspension, on an incorrect ribbon, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Tenth Anniversary of Independence Medal was instituted in 1985, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the declaration of independence of Papua New Guinea in 1975. It was awarded to prominent civilians and members of the defence and emergency forces who had made a significant contribution to the country since independence.
