In white porcelain, an olpe shaped vase with blue glazed symbols including a large central 1914 Iron cross with straight emanating rays from behind the cross, with foliage branches on each side, the reverse presents the dates 1914 1915 with an oak leaf branch below, a thin blue line at the lip and foot, the bottom is marked with the crossed swords of Meissen with two slashes denoting 1852-1870 period tableware of unsuitable quality, measures 94mm (diameter across lip) x 187mm (h), small imperfection on the lip, no cracks or chips, remains in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Meissen was established in 1710 and was the premier porcelain factory in Saxony. From 1861-1864, a new factory was built in Meissen’s Triebischtal valley. During the war, patriotic housewares and table wares were created to bolster spirit and demonstrate support. Following the end of the war and the fall of the German Monarchy, the name was changed to Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen. The company is still active today and the brand is held in the highest regard.
