Germany, HJ. A Member’s Knife, Transitional Example by Carl Eickhorn

Item #G53233

$541
(HJ Fahrtenmesser). A well-preserved HJ member’s knife, measuring 25.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 13 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. The obverse of the blade bears an acid-etched inscription of “BLUT UND EHRE!” (BLOOD AND HONOUR!”). The reverse features a transitional maker’s mark consisting of the logo of Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, situated above a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) insignia and a maker’s code of “M7/66” for the same manufacturer. The blade sits securely within a one-piece, nickel-plated, magnetic metal hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel, with the seam covered by an intact black leather buffer pad. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are secured in place with dual non-magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle grip is an enameled HJ insignia. The knife is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a blued magnetic metal shaft with a gently rounded tip in classic Eickhorn style. Riveted to the reverse of the shaft is a black leather strap with a functional metal snap button to fasten the dagger in place, set through a loop for belt suspension. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some tarnishing to the blade and hilt, scratching to the enamel of the handle insignia, and fatigue of the leather hanger. It remains in a near extremely fine condition.
