(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Mannschaften). An extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS Dachau-style M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two slate-grey bakelite buttons emanating from the right flap which meet analogous reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The peak bears the unmistakable outline of a one-piece trapezoidal SS-style eagle and Totenkopf insignia, which has been carefully removed from the cap. Completing the exterior features is a protruding card stock-reinforced visor, lined in identical wool on the obverse and presenting with an exposed core on the reverse in classic Dachau style. The interior is fully encompassed with a field-grey cotton/rayon-blended herringbone twill (HBT) cloth liner, which is unmarked with the exception of a size of “58” stamped onto the crown in black ink. It measures approximately 21 cm (w) x 25.5 cm (l) x 13.5 cm (h). In addition to the missing insignia, the core shows some signs of fatigue and bending, but demonstrates no cracking, and the cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
